“Libre’ is a song that was written years ago but never released. Cheo heard the songwriter, Jorge Spiteri perform it in 1991. Cheo never stopped asking Jorge to release the song until Jorge finally said: “Cheo, you love this song, you record it.”

Sadly, Jorge passed away in the middle of the pandemic, but circumstance led to Cheo finally cutting this as the final song during the recording sessions for his new album. He then invited his friend and Latin GRAMMY winning Best New Artist Nella to also sing on it.

A combination of Latin soul, Santana and Laurel Canyon, in Cheo’s own words ‘everyone has a different reading into what freedom means but I wanted the song to feel like a breezy evening, sunbathing, smelling something nice, your mind tingling staying out of trouble and out of reach for a few minutes.’ ‘Libre’ is the second single from Cheo’s new album “Música para verse bien” that releases in early 2023.
